John Wesley Oden first came to Milledgeville as an assistant physician of the Georgia State Sanitarium. He was superintendent of the Georgia State Sanitarium from 1935-1941. Before his appointment he was the superintendent of the Grace Training School for Mentally Defective Children, which he served as from 1926-1935.
