The Courland Pocket

The Courland Pocket was an event during the last days of World War 2 in which a number of German divisions were cut of in the Courland Peninsula, present-day Northern Latvia. They were joined of S.S. divisions as well as several local Latvian S.S. divisions, collectively called the Latvian Legion. As the war ended the German forces surrendered to the besieging Russian army, but many of the members of the now defunct Latvian Legion carried on fighting as "forest brothers" in the Latvian woods.
